Cave Dweller or Sky Walker?

According to my sister-in-law the interior/garden designer, there are two types of people - sky and cave. Sky people tend to like bright colours like yellows and pale blues, and airy interiors with lots of light. Their art might be rolling hills in Tuscany and vases of bright flowers.

Cave people, on the other hand, like dark colours. Their home might have beams and wood paneling and leather chairs and fireplaces, the artwork more dark and moody.

Guess which one I am.

If you guessed cave, you'd be right. If I could live in an English manor house library curled up in an overstuffed, worn out leather chair, I'd die happy.

And when it snows and the temperature drops, I go from cave to hermit.

Which one are you?

Sky. I get crazy without natural light and being able to see the sky.

Defininely sky. I painted our den and kitchen a pale spring green because the wood paneling make me feel like I was in a cave and I hated it. I almost never close the blinds in the living and dining room. I just love the light.

Like Dykewife, I have to wonder if it is possible to be both. I love the airiness of your Wyeth painting (and have a small picture of the same ilk in 'my' office (which is filled with some of my favorite things.) It is a light and airy room with pastels. But I also love dark wood and cozy fabrics and a warm fire burning, a cat on my lap, and a good book in my hands. Is it possible that a cave dweller needs to fly sometimes, and that a sky walker needs to feel safe sometimes?

I think Dykewife and Debby may be on to something. I like sky in summer, but in winter, I go full on hermit and enter my cave until spring. Nothing beats a roaring fire, soft music, a good book and a glass of single malt. Or maybe I just have a split personality...
