Site Specific Extrovert

People who have met me in person might have a really hard time believing this, but I would actually describe myself as an introvert. I can turn on the switch in a social situation and become what Mike Myers describes as a Site Specific Extrovert, but I crave quiet most days. Social situations tend to exhaust me, whereas they energize extroverts. But hey you'll strike up a conversation with anyone with a pulse, I've been told. That's mostly because I'm shamelessly nosy about other people's lives. But if you put me at a table with strangers and ask me to converse, I'm more likely to convulse from nervous energy, then expire.

So how about you? Extrovert or introvert?

Introvert, scoring INFJ on the Meyer's Briggs.

I do write better than a speak (although it is hard to tell lately...) mostly because I have the chance to study my words and correct them before sending them on.

You have described me perfectly. I'm not at all shy--I can handle myself in social situations--but, boy, I'd mostly rather be home with a good book.

Isn't it funny? Because I'm sure if you asked people who know me, they'd say Extrovert with a capital E. But I ain't.

Introvert, but like others that surprises people. Loved the book by Susan Cain...it made it all make sense.

That description you posted IS me.

I think that's me!!!! Wouldn't say I always think carefully before I speak, but am definitely a listener and much more lucid when I write! Hate meeting heaps of strangers at once too...

Wow - that's me to a T! I'm an INFJ as well.

Definitely introvert (INTJ), but at Surrey something strange happens and I do a Jekyll-Hyde thing and start feeding off all the energy and general socialness. I can't get enough of it. Afterwards, I feel faintly bereft for a day or two, and then suddenly things are back to normal and I'm happily alone again. [g]

P.S. The word-verify is painful! I can never read it and have do it over and over. I'm on my third try now...

Beth, your Surrey description is spot on. I feel EXACTLY the same way!

And that stupid word ver is a pain, but I thought it might cut down on some of the weird spam that was making its way through. If it's really annoying, I'll remove it again and see what crawls out of the sewers again.

I've tested as an extrovert, but after a discussion with Beth and Jo at Surrey several years ago, realized that ENTJ was my work personality, that I'm really an introvert. That explained why I liked a glass of wine before parties (once I realized that, I stopped)

I love people, but they exhaust me. I just took an almost 3 week trip, the first half of it alone, and it was so restful to be by myself. This last week, much as I like my co-workers, was a challenge. We were together all day, and into the evenings.

Thanks for posting this, Pam. Glad to know there are lots of others like me out there.

I really do find it exhausting to be around other people all the time. With the exception of Surrey, which is in a league all its own. I just love it.

I was with a non-writer recently who looked askance as I explained how I rarely feel lonely as the people in my head keep me company when I am alone. Non-writers just don't get it!
