On why you should be in the photo

I love Miz Booshay. Not only is she an extraordinary photographer who really captures the essence of the person in her beautiful portraits, but she's just a lovely person.

Today, she posted on Pioneer Woman's blog and her story really touched me. Forget your foolish pride and just jump in the frame, she urges. Why? Because she lost her parents when she was just sixteen and get this - she's not sure if she has even one photo of her with her mother. Doesn't that break your heart?

Why don't you hie on over there and read it.

HERE

Thanks, Miz Booshay. Them is wise, wonderful words.

I was going to post a photo of me with my kids to go with this story and guess what? I don't have any! What a wake-up call.

She's right. We all need to "just jump in." I wasn't as young as she, but my mother died 23 years ago, right after the birth of my first DD. I eventually cleaned out everything from the house when my dad moved into assisted living. To my horror, the pictures I have of my mother and I end when I was around 9. Oh, I had pics of her at my wedding (she walked me down the aisle because my dad had a stroke that day) but my DH (and insert whatever you'd like for the D) threw our wedding pics out when we moved.

Gone.

I have pics of her with my DD1 at her baby dedication. None of her and me. Very few of her after I was in that last picture with her.

So yeah, jump in. Don't be shy.

I wish I had those pictures. I'll make sure my DDs do...

BB, you're on. Shall I come to Oz or will you come to the Great White North?

Nightsmusic, for D I'm going to go with Duh or Dopey. What a shame. But you know, Miz Booshay is right. Mom is usually behind the camera, or saying "no, no, I'm a mess, don't take my picture." What message are we giving our daughters?

It really, really hit home. My kids love me, just the way I am. As one of them said, "Relax. You look just fine. You look like our mom."

Gulp.

Yup. There was a post that I needed to read. I'd better get over myself.

Need a volunteer to shoot those photos of you and your kids? Will your kids be at Linda's upcoming weding cuz I know you will and, as the wedding photgrapher, I'll just happen to have a camera in my hands. How convenient! And you'll be looking lovely - hair done, a little tasteful makeup, nice outfit and your attitdue perfectly adjusted by the second glass of bubbly. Oh boy, can't wait!!

Ah, Spanky, I knew you were going to say that....

Yes, the kids will be there and mama will be partaking of the bubbly.
