For all my fellow word geeks. Erin McKean talks about redefining lexicography courtesy of TED lectures.

"The internet is actually made up of words and enthusiasm."

I haven't even watched the video yet because I wanted to say how much I love the TED website! I want to be a TEDdie! When I experience people such as those featured on that site, when I am privileged to hear the words that trip off the tongues of brilliant and scintillating folks, I am given proof positive in the existence of God! (or your Higher Power, whatever you believe in)......

Now I'll go and watch the video.

Midge, if you love TED, go to my friend kc dyer's blog called leftwriter (see the list on the right) and watch the Leonardo Da Vinci video. Awesome.

Pam:

I wept when I first saw the Leonardo video. I happen to be fascinated by anything da Vinci, even before (long before) The Da Vinci Code. If you are familiar with his sketches, then you'll recognize that my avatar is his -- the Study of the Head of Ledo, which is one of the loveliest he ever did, IMO. One of his most compelling sketches is the one where he did a study on intercourse -- the act of coition. It shows how reproductive fluid goes straight from the man's brain to his penis..... inferring that the brilliance and dominance of Man begins from the moment of conception. For someone as hell bent as he was on performing the excommunicable sin of the study of anatomy, he sure got it wrong!!!

Thank you for the reference to kc's blog. I have it bookmarked now.

Midge, I DID recognize your avatar, that's why I sent you over to visit kc! Glad you liked the video. It is very moving, no?

I had the good fortune of seeing the Shakespeare portraits in London. The gallery had them all together for the first time, including the Canadian-owned one which they think might be the only legitimate one. I got the same emotional shot in the gut you described.
