Don't you find January always starts off kind of slow?
Our Christmas holiday always ends with both a bang and a whimper as all the kids and their friends and our relatives who have spent weeks on end crammed into our tiny house sharing meals and outdoor skating and games of President (although that's not what the kids called it) all leave to take up their lives again and then....suddenly the holiday really is over. Except for the decorations which have to be taken down, and the mess, which is everywhere.
I've stayed up way too late, eaten too many goodies, played too many games of Angry Birds. I'm in recovery mode. I am about to make chicken soup with egg noodles because my husband and I are fighting colds (although he is in worse shape than I am.) I have to make a big pot, because my son, his friends and my nephew are coming over to watch a hockey game. Hockey games trump colds. Maybe the festivities aren't quite over?
I prefer September for setting goals and I see that month as the real beginning of the year. Resolutions are not my thing and the short dark days in January are ones I just have to get through until the sun shows up again.
Let's start the year with a game of "what is this?"
Update.
It is, in fact, the window of our backyard shed.
My son put a paintball through it many years ago and we haven't gotten around to replacing the glass. I think the frost patterns look rather fetching.

Frost?
Well... it's a hole. Am guessing a tree is around the hole. It looks more like feathers, but I don't want to guess that there is a hole amongst feathers. You don't seem like THAT kind of photographer!
:-)

How about an aerial shot of a lake and surroundings?
It looks like frost on a window, and you've blown a hole in it.
Water that is frozen, but not frozen in the center. Does that make sense?
Frost covered bark from a birch tree?
It is a closeup of ice on the lake, and a hole made by a buoy that sunk because the ice inside it cracked it and sank it to the bottom of the lake scaring nearby sleepy fish. What are these games of President and Angry Birds?
Colleen is the closest.
And it wasn't me who blasted the hole. It was my son. Care to guess what device caused the hole?
MHodgson, spoken like a true psychiatrist.
And Angry Birds is a game you can order for your iPad. It's addictive. President is another (more polite) name for the card game also known as Arsehole. The cousins play it a lot over Xmas break.
A BB gun? Gotta be careful with those things...you could shoot your eye out.
I like the way Jack Frost has painted your shed window!
Not a BB gun (I have one of those, which I call a squirrel gun, although I haven't actually used it on a squirrel) but a paint ball gun. The hole is the exact same size as the paint pellet, so there was no point in my son trying to fib his way out of that one.
That gorgeous pattern is frost? (asks she who lives in the driest state on the driest continent on Earth, and sees frost about as often as she sees pigs winging through the skies)
Beautiful shot, Pam.
Yup. This was on the shed windows and we sometimes get gorgeous patterns on the bathroom window after someone takes a long shower. One of the benefits of living in the Great White North. (g)
Yeah, beautiful, but winter still sucks!
